Buryat Engineer and his descendants

Rigzin Wangpo, son of the Buryat engineer

During the time of the 13th Dalai Lama, a Buryat Mongol was living in Lhasa, Tibet. He was an electrical engineer being educated in Russia. He was the first such expert who helped Tibetans establish the first set of electrical networks in Lhasa in the early 20th century. The engineer had married in Tibet and had a son named Rigzin Wangpo. The son was a monk in his early life, but later settled down in Kalimpong and got married. Rigzin Wangpo was well known as a writer, poet and journalist. He was working with a local Tibetan newspaper in Kalimpong that was run by Khunu Tharchin. He had a divorce later and became a Hinayana monk with an ordination name Bhikshu Sugata Prajñã. In his later days, he traveled to and lived in Burma and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). It was believed that he left numerous literary works in the Tibetan language, however, we haven't yet located them. His descendants at present live in Kalimpong. This information was given by Lama Chimpa.
